Gray Hair - The Truth:
You’ve probably heard all kinds of reasons why people get gray hair. The truth about gray hair is that gray hair is not actually a color. The melanin in certain cells in the hair shaft is what gives hair its’ color. As we age, these cells produce less pigment and the hair actually loses color. An old wives’ tale is that if you pull a gray hair out, two will grow in its’ place. The truth is that only one hair will grow in the pulled out hair's place! An interesting fact is that the average age for a woman to begin graying is “34” years young! One of the most well known stories about graying hair is that it is caused by stress. This may actually be true. A shocking event can cause a person to go gray overnight. Genetics play a major role in determining when you will get gray hair. Luckily, there are many ways to cover up those pesky gray roots. If you just have minimal gray, use a semi-permanent color. For a lot of gray coverage you will want to go with a permanent color.
